To get this blog started properly, here are five really awesome bars in Prague. For each bar I will give a brief description, website if they have one, address, directions from the center and opening hours. These bars are listed in no particular order of preference, but all of them are worth checking out.
KRAKORA
Website: www.krakora.net
Address: Kunětická 2, Praha 2, Vinohrady
Opening Hours: Mon-Fri 12 - 23, Sat 18-23
Directions: Take trams 5, 9 or 26 to stop Husinecka or tram 11 to Italska. From Husincka, walk back down the hill to Italska. From either end of Italska, walk along the street and Kunětická is a small side street opposite the park
This is an awesome little bar tucked away on a side street behind the main train station. Don't let the location fool you. It might look like it's in the middle of nowhere, but this place gets remarkably busy. Whether that's because of the great beers, the good, cheap food, or the cute bar staff I have no idea.
There is a weekly Couchsurfing meeting on a Thursday night and it tends to get really busy then, but even on random week nights it can sometimes be difficult to find a place to sit.
Before I forget, they also have 3 pumas walking around the beer garden, so I suppose that could have something to do with how busy they get. Don't be surprised if you see one of the pumas being led through the bar on a visit here either as they are often taken for walks in the park across the road!
U Prince Miroslava
Website: http://uprincemiroslava.eu/
Address: K Vodojemu 4, Praha 5, 150 00
Opening Hours: Mon - Thurs 11-23, Fri 11-24, Sat 12-24, Sun 12-22.30
Directions: Take tram number 7 from Andel and go four stops to tram stop 'Laurove'. The bar is visible and just up the side street opposite the tram stop
There is only one word to describe this bar.
AWESOME
They have 19 (nineteen) beers on tap, all of which are very reasonably priced, and although it's slightly out of the way it's well worth the extra effort required to get there. They also do food, of course, which again is good and reasonably priced.
They are also very busy, so if you want to take a group there make sure you book well in advance.
PRAVEK
Website: www.pravek.cz
Address: Sokolská 60, I.P. Pavlova, Prague 2
Opening Hours: Mon-Tues 11-23, Weds-Fri 11-23.30, Sat 11.30-23-30, Sun 11.30-23
Directions: Take metro red line or trams 4, 6, 10, 11, 16 or 22 to I.P. Pavlova and walk down towards Karlovo Namesti. Turn right onto Sokolská and the bar is a little way down the street on the right
For those of you that like something a little bit different in a bar, this is a great option. The bar has a neanderthal theme, complete with the staff dressing up as cavemen/women and rocks on each table that you have to bang in order to get service.
This is a great place for a fun party, and they have an awesome outdoor terrace upstairs which is open until 10pm. And fortunately, although some of the seats might look like they've been hewn from rock they are actually very comfortable, so it's easy to walk in here for one drink and then suddenly realise it's closing time!
Pivovar U Bulovky
Website: http://www.pivovarubulovky.cz/
Address: Bulovka 17, 180 00, Praha 8, Libeň
Opening Hours: Mon-Thurs - 11-23, Fri 11-24, Sat 12-24, Sun 12-23
Directions: Take trams 3 and 10 to tram stop 'Bulovka'. Cross the street and walk down Bulovka and the bar is a little way down on the right hand side.
This is the first brew-pub to make an appearance on this blog, although rest assured it wont be the last!
It's not all that big, but the bar was recently renovated and it has a great, homey atmosphere and is well worth the trip out of the center to visit.
Like the other bars on the list, it does get very busy, even though it's a little hard to find. The reason for that though is the excellent beers they brew on the premises and the first class food. As always, if you want to take a group here it's much better to book in advance to avoid disappointment :-)
Cafe Pub Atmosphere
Website: www.atmoska.cz
Address: Smetanovo nábřeží 14, Prague 1
Opening Hours: Cafe 11.30-01.30, Pub 12-???, Garden 11.30-22.00
Directions: The easiest way to find this place is to go to the Narodni Divadlo tram stop and walk towards the river. Turn right on the street by the river and the bar is a short distance up the road on the right hand side. There is another entrance to the place, but that's a lot more difficult to find! If you get to Charles Bridge you've gone way too far :-)
This is a really, really cool bar, split into a number of different sections. Very popular with young people, it's a great place whether you want to hang out with a few friends for a chat, play table football, or go with a large group, although large groups REALLY need to make sure they book well in advance.
There is also a deposit required when booking for groups, and this is returned at the end of the night when you pay your bar tab. The staff are super friendly and mostly efficient, although sometimes it does get crazy busy which means you may have to wait a few minutes for service.
So there you have it. This is just a start to what will become a much more comprehensive list of Prague bars. If anyone reading this has any suggestions of bars they think should be included on here, feel free to let me know in the comments below and I'll check them out as soon as possible.

What's this site about?
For a year now I've been running a weekly event in Prague called Tuesday Toast. The idea of the event is that I pick a bar and then take as many people as want to join me along for a few beers and a chat on a Tuesday evening. After a slow start, there is now a fairly steady crowd of around 20 people each week, so clearly there was a gap in the weekly calender for such an event.
Anyway, after a year of walking around looking for interesting bars, I recently decided to start searching online for tips. Which is when I noticed something rather strange.
There are countless blogs and pages about Prague bars lurking around the interweb, which at first glance can only be a good thing. But on closer inspection I spotted a bit of a problem. Pretty much every single page/blog is recommending the same few bars.
It appears that rather than actually go out and explore Prague, these people are just looking at other blogs and copying the recommendations they see there. Either that or there are a select few bars paying a lot of money to advertise themselves online in every blog possible.
Either way, it doesn't do much to help people visiting Prague for the first time find interesting, local bars to go to.
So I decided to write my own blog about Prague bars, and here are a few things you can/can't expect from this blog;
WHAT TO EXPECT:
I have personally been to every single bar that I will ever post about on this site
I fully intend to go back to each and every one of these bars as often as my schedule/wallet allows me to
All of my friends who have been to these bars also recommend them
Each of these bars is reasonably priced for both food and drink.
All of the bars are close to metro/tram stops so easy to get to from anywhere in Prague
Many of these bars will have a good selection of beers. Some of them will be brew-pubs
All of these bars are places where local Czech people eat and drink
WHAT NOT TO EXPECT
This is not a copy-paste blog about bars
There are no tourist trap expensive bars featured on this blog
You are not likely to run into drunken stag parties from the UK in any of these bars
This is not a list of sports bars, English/Irish bars, or any other kind of specific bars
You will not find ANY of the bars here that are on all the other blogs
This is a list of bars I like. Nothing more, nothing less. So without further ado, let's get on with recommending a few bars to you guys....
